In recent years, temperature increases across the globe have highlighted the effects of global warming. The latest report published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shows that 2022 will be the sixth warmest year since 1880. This data makes it clear that average temperature levels across the globe are steadily rising.
According to research conducted by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information, the worldwide average land temperature in 2022 was well above the 20th century average of 13.9 degrees Celsius. Likewise, the ocean surface temperature was 0.86 degrees Celsius above the 20th century average. These data show that the global temperature increase has reached deviations of 0.82 degrees Celsius on land and 0.99 degrees Celsius in the ocean.
The fact that the last 8 years have been the hottest since 1880 clearly demonstrates the seriousness of global warming. January 2023's record-breaking temperatures in Europe show that this is not just an exception, but part of a global trend.
The problem of global warming may still seem insignificant to some, but it should not be forgotten that a 1°C temperature increase could have serious impacts on climate and natural systems. In particular, a rapid warming could lead to fundamental changes in natural systems, such as melting glaciers, rising sea levels and increased frequency of extreme weather events.
It is therefore important to act quickly and effectively to address global warming and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Only in this way will it be possible to leave a habitable planet for future generations. Everyone's conscious and responsible behavior in this regard will ensure that the steps to be taken in the fight against global warming will be successful. Let us not forget that protecting our nature and securing our future is our common responsibility.
Global warming, driven primarily by human-induced increases in greenhouse gas emissions, poses an existential threat to both present-day society and the well-being of future generations, necessitating urgent global action to mitigate its devastating impacts and secure a sustainable future for all.
